Konzertfreude recap: Faderhead and AP, also Iris and De/Vision
Just got back from the Faderhead and Aesthetic Perfection show.
They performed at the Curtain Club in Dallas, which was a great venue for the act, perfectly sized for the audience, with the kind of dirty hole decor that complemented the aesthetic of the music. I loved the doorman/bouncer - he played around with everyone, giving high fives (or missing, or putting his hand 7.5' high in the air so I couldn't reach it) and just being friendly and nice to everyone. I did not like him enough to give him my phone number though. If anyone knows anyone who likes really friendly and nice big black guys, send them to the bouncer at the Curtain Club :-)
Everyone Grows Cold opened, and they were ok, a little guitar heavy for my taste, but good for those who favor that sort of music. Faderhead stole the show, imo. He had a good stage presence, and lamented that he didn't have time to banter and BS like he wanted to. He opened with Dirtygrrls Dirtybois, then went into one of my least favorite songs from the new album, The Way to Fuck God, but for whatever reason, I disliked it (and Destroy Improve Rebuild) a lot less live than I do on the album, which I can only attribute it to his likeable stage presence. He had a number of sound issues, and sang one whole song sans at least one channel. Oh, and I had a fangirl squee moment! At one point Faderhead addressed me directly from the stage, he asked if he frightened me. I looked around, thinking maybe he was talking to someone else. Then when he confirmed he was talking to me he told me he liked my dancing :-) I was vacillating between dancing my ass off and being a boring crowd member just watching him to see what he was like, so that's probably why he thought I was scared.
Aesthetic Perfection continues to not impress me. Graves seems to think he is a god of the stage, and I disagree. But Dallas ate it up, so I guess it works for him. I find it interesting how I thought Faderhead's lyrics made him out to be an arrogant bastard, but how he comes across as much more approachable. Whereas AP's lyrics don't come across as egotistical (I think. I don't understand many of them, too distorted) but his stage posturing is a bit over the top.
Oh, I almost forgot the most important part! I debuted a new outfit last night! There were some wardrobe malfunctions, primarily due to my left stocking and garter straps, but I should be able to correct all the issues very easily.
I was going to write about the Iris, De/Vision, and Mesh show, but I've already spent a lot of time on this entry. Suffice it to say that the show was awesome, and I spent most of it being fangirly over Ned Kirby. And Iris in general was awesome, I really like their frontman too. De/Vision was awesome, and I got my dance on for them. Mesh was ok, but not danceable enough.
