Let's see..... last update was in Georgia.

On the music front: Concerts in Denver were great! De/Vision again, and I brought Masha with, and she got to tease one of the band members for wearing a Russian shirt but not knowing Russian. Then I got to see Alter der Ruine and Mr Kitty, which was super exciting because they are up-and-coming (or maybe just to certain music snobs) and they only had a handful of tourdates. Then Grendel bookended the end of CO and start of MN. Grendel-MN was an interesting show, because they were doing military helicopter exercises downtown, which pissed me off, which really added to the aggrotech atmosphere of the concert. I also noticably damaged my hearing as that concert. After that, MN was all about clubbing, and I had so much fun! The music rocked - I loved the DJs and the DJs loved me - and I got to know a couple more people there. I'm really looking forward to Hard Mondays again next year! I should probably dampen my enthusiasm actually. I went to "Be.witched Wednesdays" at Numbers in Houston, and it was much with the lame. But there is a Mr Kitty concert at the end of the show, so that will be excellent!

Business-wise, the year has been going great! Mostly great workers, and we bought a shoppe in MN, and I got to leave someone else to run the shop while I went to Kirsten and Damon's wedding! That was incredible.

I'm still not certain what my next extended vacation will be. M'era Luna in 2015 or 2016? More likely 2016 because I don't want the shoppe opened for the first time without me. Or maybe Australia in the winter? Or Bali or New Zealand? Or maybe I should just start a general fund and try to be impulsive! Within certain limits, of course!

I more or less got over Jon in MN. It's a little wierd seeing him now.... hopefully getting past this awkward stage won't take more than a year or two... and certainly all the cute boys in MN helped! I might just be addicted to NRE. It's certainly a thought.

My cat has fleas. I have fleas. My whole house has fleas. Thankfully, my house is only 220 sq ft, but it's still frustrating!

It's been an interesting week.

Last week I came to the realization that my feet were not simply sinking into the luxurious softness of my bathroom rug, but they were also sinking into the floorboards. So I contacted one of the Jill-of-all-trades on site, and after scouting it out on Monday, she and her muscle/runner began work replacing my bathroom floor on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, what she anticipated would be a fairly simple two-day job turned into something of a fiasco because the people who installed my sink and aftermarket toilet were very certain that they were permanent installations. The sink cabinet was screwed into the wall from the outside (with the screw heads only accessible from underneath my aluminum siding), and the toilet bowl flange was glued to the pipe below it, which in turn was glued to the black water tank. Dealing with all that has added about six hours and $200 to the project.

End of day one. Not much completed yet, spent most of day dealing with cabinet. Mid day, day 2. Everything that needs to be removed is removed. End of day, day 2. Came home from the concert to find my bathroom looking halfway normal again, yay! Placeholder for project end picture.

Then last night was the God Module concert. The person who was going to come with me bailed at the last minute, so I ended up giving away his ticket to a random couple at the door who seemed to be taken aback that it was a special event and not just a random no-cover Church night. It was a fun show, but I don't know if it was the 6 hours sleep, the stress of the house repair, the stress of trying to find someone else interested in going to the concert, or PMS, but I wasn't really feeling into it, and left the club around midnight.

Otherwise, I've been doing a lot of sewing, and I've had a 50% success rate of getting to the Monday night dance class. It's been a good show, but damn I can't wait to get to CO!

Just got back from Wednesday Church at the Lizard Lounge in Dallas. Some big changes - main room was closed off, but the upstairs balcony was open! I'd never been up there before. Very nice. Except that Virus was spinning up there, and during the majority of the times I went up there, he was spinning crap (Beastie Boys? Some R&B song I vaguely remember from high school?). Towards the end he seemed to be doing better (VAC's Fun with Drugs, SoM), but it's hard to really say for certain since I didn't spend much time up there. However, DJ Per Nilssen was freaking awesome as usual, so I can't complain about not getting to dance! Up until 10:30 or so he played more future/synthpop type music, then he played harder stuff until 1-ish (I spent myself very early in that set, during Aesthetic Perfection), then he segued back to pretty stuff for about 20 minutes before getting oontz-y again. I again petered out pretty quickly after it got harder, and left around 1:40. I have notes for three of the songs I heard, so hopefully I'll be able to figure those out!

Oh, and apparently there is now no cover at all. Yay!

Awesomeness: At the end of the night, I went to thank Per for his DJ'ing, and he gave me two comp tickets to see God Module in May! So that will be a fun night! If rather heavy on the terror-EBM-ness! Yay!

Not-awesomeness: While I didn't throw my back out, I think I put my weight on my left knee too much while I was dancing, and my kneecap wasn't particularly happy with me by the end of the night. No actual injuries, but it's something to bear in mind.

Konzertapathie - Aesthetic Perfection will be in concert in Denver on Wednesday, June 20.

Just got back from the Imperative Reaction, God Module, and System Syn concert at Numbers in Houston. It was awesome! I also enjoyed my first experience of Numbers. I love goth bois: All dolled up as I was, *no one* approached me or spoke to me unless I spoke to them first (in order, the merch guy, the lead vocalist for God Module, the parking lot attendant. Oh, one guy did ask me the name of one of God Module's songs. I guess he thought I was previously well-acquainted with their music :-D ).

Review of Numbers/Triptych concert )

So, at work we've had a bunch of skunks living under my booth, and on Tuesday one of the site crew guys figured out where their nest was. He called his boss, and at the end of the work day, the site foreman came over and removed them. Texas style. The mother and three juveniles were killed, and the father and one juvenile got away. They pulled up four floorboards to remove the bodies, and should be putting those back in place this morning. My shop reeked. The site crew guy showed me his special solution for removing the oil and odor (three parts water to one part each of bleach, degreaser, and tequila). I've put about five gallons of the mix into the floor, so hopefully it smells better today. I've put out a number of bowls of vinegar to help absorb the smell as well, and since I can't use vinegar on the crowns, I'll be making up a vodka solution to deodorize ribbons and velvet. I was also directed to speak to the wonderful people at Crystal Mountain, and they supplied me with a cup or so of orange oil to help mask and residual scent this weekend.

Just got back from the Faderhead and Aesthetic Perfection show.

Conceptions and corrections of ego )

Oh, I almost forgot the most important part! I debuted a new outfit last night! There were some wardrobe malfunctions, primarily due to my left stocking and garter straps, but I should be able to correct all the issues very easily.

I was going to write about the Iris, De/Vision, and Mesh show, but I've already spent a lot of time on this entry. Suffice it to say that the show was awesome, and I spent most of it being fangirly over Ned Kirby. And Iris in general was awesome, I really like their frontman too. De/Vision was awesome, and I got my dance on for them. Mesh was ok, but not danceable enough.

Went to the Combichrist/Aesthetic Perfection concert last week in Austin, and it was fun times. Had moderate expectations for the concert, which were fulfilled, so I was satisfied.

The Elysium in Austin was just what I was hoping it would be, and not at all what I was afraid it would be, so that was very good. I will withhold a "review" of it until I have been once or twice more, but I certainly will not hesitate to go again.

I just got my first chiropractic adjustment at a RESCU event today, yay! Hopefully that sporadic back thing will stop bothering me now.

Went to go see Assemblege 23 at the Prophet Bar (formerly the Gypsy Tea Room) last night. I'd seen on the Twin Cities message board that they generally were a poor live show, so we went late, missing CNTL's performance. There were maybe only a hundred people in attendance, and I ended up feeling pretty satisfied with the show. The keyboardist did a good job of telling people to get up off their asses and watch the show from the front of the room, instead of spread out all over the cavernous room. My one with is that they had played at a smaller venue, so it didn't feel so freaking empty.

In vehicle news, I installed my stereo yesterday morning, and am keeping an eye on craigslist for a used low-profile tool box. I think I'll wait on the 5th wheel hitch until TRF. I also have my first truck job - one of the potters wants a half ton of pea gravel next week, so I'll likely be hauling that from Lowe's for him. Woot!

Went to the Apop concert last night, at Club Mardi Gras in Scottsdale. They were ok, and I had a good time, but I don't know if it's the venue not being very good for electronic music, or the band not being very good for live performances that made it a bit disappointing. I rather expect the Voltaire concert there a couple weeks ago would have been well-suited to the venue though. I bought one of their newer albums, and got home at 3am.

For some reason I had thought Skinny Puppy was performing this weekend and that I would miss them due to SphereCamp, but it turns out they're playing in Houston tonight! So in an hour I will take off and hang out with Trina, Christ, and Will at what is likely to be a very interesting, theatrical concert.

The final weekend of TRF went very well. Record numbers on Friday, with less than impressive numbers on Saturday and Sunday, but overall it was better than everyone was expecting.

Now it is raining and cold. We might get a little sun tomorrow and Thursday, but then Friday it's supposed to be a high of 40 and a chance of snow... boo!

KMFDM

I enjoyed the KMFDM concert last night, though I probably would have *loved* it if I was still a headbanger.

The opening bands were Ugly Mustard and Angelspit. I guess Ugly Mustard is local, and definitely leaned more towards the heavy metal side of things. Their loyal metalhead fans in the front of the audience loved them, but though the music was mostly good, the lyrics were occasionally awful ("My friend will fuck you up" ... because I'm too much of a pussy to do it myself? "I'll make you shit your pants"). Angelspit was more electronic, but still leaning towards the heavy metal side. One of their songs actually compelled me to dance1, but the rest of them were pretty much a steady beat and roaring vocals, and again, music to headbang to instead of dance to.

KMFDM had good solid performance with a good mix of oldies but goodies and newer stuff. My companions and I got a kick out of seeing Sascha smoke a cigarette on stage - take that smoking Nazis! Of course, Lucia's vocals were awesome, and I dug her meatballs. We missed hearing Juke Joint Jezebel, but they're probably sick of it, so that's all right. All in all, I'd go see them again.

1 - Oh, hey, the song I liked was 100%, which happens to be the only one I've been exposed to prior, on an Asleep By Dawn comp. Still, my companions agreed that it was the best of the set. Guess they're not headbangers anymore either.

I had an awesome time at the VNV Nation/Ayria concert last night. Alas, for some silly reason Ayria is the first of the two openers, and we ended up getting to the Gothic halfway through their set, but I dashed to the dance floor and thrashed around to the last four songs in their set. The other opener was not my thing - War Tapes is rather more traditional rock and not at all danceable (or, at least, my kind of danceable). Then VNV rocked of course. Ronan spent a lot of time chatting between songs, exhorting the YouTube junkies to stop watching the concert from their video cameras and watch it in real life, telling the pot-smoker in the audience that it smells like burning piss to him, and even dropping back into an Irish accent when introducing Illusion. After the concert I bought Ayria's 2-disc Flicker, and then left right away, because I didn't really want to wait in line with 50 people to get it autographed.

The after party at the Church was a lot of fun. I did a lot more dancing, and I was able to tell Jennifer I want to see Ayria headline the next tour.

Reading: I finally got to the Holmes story of The Adventure of the Sussex Vampire, and was a tad disappointed (though not surprised) to find there was nothing supernatural to it. I've been on the waiting list for a few other books at the library and probably won't get any of them before I leave, alas.

Weekwork is getting rolling. I'm less than pleased with the sewing I'm doing - my boss is too busy to slow down to explain the details of what she wants me to do, so it's all been trial and error. I'm only going to sew one new cloak this week, make certain it's right, and then I'll probably only do maybe 5 a week after that, just so there aren't many more of these issues. And besides, why would I want to work a lot for a crazy lady when I can work for awesome laid back artists?! I've cut some mats for prints and they've mentioned possibly 1) stretching canvases, 2) making little hanging thingies on commission, and 3) doing airbrush tattoos for parties next year.

You all rock! Have a wonderful day!

We went to go see Funker Vogt on Friday night. At 10:30, when the opening band hadn't started yet, we decided we would leave at 1 no matter what, so we ended up only being able to see 45 minutes of their performance. Still, they were awesome, and I got plenty of dancing in, so I don't really have any complaints. I now have a more casual outfit for dancing (yay pants!), and know that I'd much rather drink on Thursdays or Sundays.

My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult is playing at the Granada Theater next month! Woo-hoo! Hrm, I like how the Granada Theater describes upcoming concerts - it's prompted me to check out Fischerspooner (looks freaking awesome!) and The Octopus Project (meh). And, VNV Nation is on tour again! Yay! (Fracking hell - Station 4 in St Paul? That place is gonna be packed!)

The red lab coat is finished. Pictures will show up eventually.

Well, I've been at the AZ campgrounds for a month now, and working for three weeks. We've been keeping busy and making a lot of chocolate: 62 batches of mint crunch, 4.5k chocolate covered bananas, 1800 chocolate covered cheesecake slices, 1k-2k each of s'mores, krispy treats, M&M and triple chocolate cups, and about 400 lbs of fudge. We've discontinued our peanut butter cup in light of the salmonella outbreak, and replaced it with rocky road. I'm learning more about managing, and thankfully haven't made any huge glaring mistakes yet. *fingers crossed*

Living in the campground is a lot different than last year. The neighboring land was sold to ranchers, so instead of ATVs we have cattle lowing at all hours of the day and night. One steer has been on the wrong side of the fence for at least two weeks, so my vote is for possession being nine-tenths of the law, and some of these hippies need meat on their bones. And with that one generator that never gets turned off at curfew, quiet land is *not* quiet, which is vastly irritating.

I actually remembered my advice to [livejournal.com profile] ynyr and spent some time writing a journal entry while I was putting off going to bed last night... Combichrist, lab coat, consumerism, stolen credit card, Chess Match, and a new tentmate! )

FYI for [livejournal.com profile] socraticlaughtr and [livejournal.com profile] starlyn_monster: Lycia is going to be playing their first concert in a decade on January 3rd.

Well, unless something comes up last minute for New Year's Eve, I'm done babysitting for the time being. My family (...?) decided to cut their vacation in half because the 2 year old wasn't reacting to the climate well. So, I got tipped groceries to feed a family of four for a week (yay Trader Joe's!), and have an open invitation to stay in their guest house should I ever find myself in LA. If I go I'll have to make sure to bring the little girl fairy wings.

I'm sad to see them go. It was interesting, and strange, to be involved with children like that. I could see myself in a potential future helping to raise a child, I think. What was really strange was singing the children the same bedtime song as my mother sang me.

Ok, so they're *a little* more agro than De/Vision or Seabound, but it looks like I'll be able to see Combichrist at the Marquee in Tempe the next week!

Heh, and Elysium in Austin has a night meant to appeal to Discordians: FNORD, Friday Night of Random Dancing.

I didn't go out to Elysium at all this show. Given, it is 3 hours away, and I didn't make much money this show.... but still. The next night I'll probably be able to make will be in Phoenix. Although maybe I'll be able to make KGB in Albuquerque in January... hrm..... [livejournal.com profile] yvennat, have you heard anything about that?
