Just got back from the Imperative Reaction, God Module, and System Syn concert at Numbers in Houston. It was awesome! I also enjoyed my first experience of Numbers. I love goth bois: All dolled up as I was, *no one* approached me or spoke to me unless I spoke to them first (in order, the merch guy, the lead vocalist for God Module, the parking lot attendant. Oh, one guy did ask me the name of one of God Module's songs. I guess he thought I was previously well-acquainted with their music :-D ).
Location: Numbers is 52 miles away from site, a good hour and then some. I got lost on the way, but found it easily enough on my second try. They have a parking lot of their very own, which is nice. I had been worried I was going to have to find street parking. The building is really just one big room, with a stage in a (very big) corner. The floor tiles need more work, but otherwise it was pretty decent.
Cover/Drink specials: Concert was a very reasonable $10, and I did not inquire as to drink specials. A rum and coke cost me $4.50.
Music: The concert was awesome, and the DJing between sets was done by Joe Letz of Combichrist. Concert DJs never get any love, so after my second and last cup of liquid courage I reassured myself that I knew absolutely no one at the club, and started grooving to his set, which was pretty awesome, possibly had dubstep influences, and included an almost unrecognizable "Just One Fix." I had danced a little during System Syn, but after that I danced pretty much nonstop, unless I needed some air to cool down or a glass of water. I would have bought CDs from each band, but I only had $18 on me and there wasn't re-entry for me to go for the other $23 I had in my truck, so I ended up buying System Syn's newest, as they seemed to have the most melodic changes (I think? Could be that I was still fresh when they played). God Module certainly seemed to be going for the Terror EBM label, with a torso impaled on the mic stand and the lead singer starting the set in a Swamp Thing type mask. Imperative Reaction's music seemed to mostly sound the same, but there was one song with a funky beat, so that was nice.
Attendees: Everyone I spoke to was nice, and the bartender (who kind of reminded me of Xer0gee) told me Underworld (roughly twice a month on Saturdays) is the best time to hear more EBM/futurepop type music. Couple of tourists, but no one was being obnoxious. I look forward to going back in December.
So, at work we've had a bunch of skunks living under my booth, and on Tuesday one of the site crew guys figured out where their nest was. He called his boss, and at the end of the work day, the site foreman came over and removed them. Texas style. The mother and three juveniles were killed, and the father and one juvenile got away. They pulled up four floorboards to remove the bodies, and should be putting those back in place this morning. My shop reeked. The site crew guy showed me his special solution for removing the oil and odor (three parts water to one part each of bleach, degreaser, and tequila). I've put about five gallons of the mix into the floor, so hopefully it smells better today. I've put out a number of bowls of vinegar to help absorb the smell as well, and since I can't use vinegar on the crowns, I'll be making up a vodka solution to deodorize ribbons and velvet. I was also directed to speak to the wonderful people at Crystal Mountain, and they supplied me with a cup or so of orange oil to help mask and residual scent this weekend.
