So, the big news is that I leave on Monday to spend the next three weeks in Santa Fe, NM. I'm going to be sewing and organizing for the owner of Flying Cloud Trading Co, as well as doing a few babysitting jobs over the holidays. It's going to be an interesting three weeks - I've only been to Santa Fe once before, for Cindy's graduation from St John's, and never in the winter, so mountain living is going to be interesting for the next few weeks... also, I have yet to encounter my boss at a time when she's not frantic, so that will be interesting... if it's really bad, I can always come back to Texas. Or go to AZ early.

And speaking of Cindy, she is coincidentally going to be flying into Houston tomorrow, so I get to spend one of my last nights in Texas hanging out with her! We haven't gotten to hang out for years! Yay!

So... plans for the next week or so:
Today: Clean condo in Houston for new boss
Tomorrow: pack trunk, backseat, front passenger seat. Dinner with Cindy
Sunday: Entheon's birthday buffet at Madras Pavilion. finish packing kitchen into car topper.
Monday: leave. drive 10 hours or so to Amarillo, get a hotel.
Tuesday: Get to bosses home (how do I punctuate that?) early afternoon, let myself in, get settled.
Wednesday: Babysit for one of her friends.
Thursday: day off. do some sewing, cleaning, maybe join the xmas crowd for a movie.
Friday: Meet the mother for my primary babysitting gig, babysit in evening
Saturday: Babysit in evening.

I went to the Superstition Mountains for the first time yesterday, with Alien Jon and Linnea. We first tried the Lost Dutchman State Park, but ended up going to the First Water Trailhead to see if we could save on entrance fees (which we did, a whopping $1, heh). I didn't see much fauna, only a ground squirrel and a roadrunner. We collected some litter while we were there, and Linnea identified a covered firepit. I need to remember to bring some first aid things next time I go (Linnea got poked by some sort of ground cactus). I also need to wear my Catskills; all that brush in my socks and shoes was a pain in the butt. It was a cool day (maybe 60 degrees) and sunny, and I drank about a pint of water per hour.

It was interesting to try and accustom myself to the new group dynamic. Linnea strikes me as the more spiritually inclined, and Jon and I were more likely to break silences. Linnea would forge on ahead, off-trail, with a foraged saguaro rib as her walking stick, while Jon trailed behind. I was a bit more laid back about sticking together, but I can definitely see the need for some sort of "at sunset we'll meet back at the car" plan. I also don't deal with conflict well - whenever they argued I tried to ignore it, but I did try and give Jon a suggestion or two while Linnea was meditating on the landscape. And I made them both sit in the back seat *nod*. No more breaking up couples for me.

I've been invited to some sort of "goth-industrial-grunge" potluck at Linnea's cousin's co-op tonight. I'm going to bring mulled cider. And my poi, but I don't know if I'll spin. With Jon there I'll feel way outclassed, and he's extended his alienness to single staff now too.

7 degrees?

How did a meme get from [livejournal.com profile] socraticlaughtr in AZ to [livejournal.com profile] griffondj and [livejournal.com profile] eyja in MN?

AZ associated:
Nov 29 - [livejournal.com profile] socraticlaughtr posts.
Nov 30 - [livejournal.com profile] cmora77_03 and [livejournal.com profile] crushed_violet copy meme from Josh. [livejournal.com profile] usqueba copies from crushed.
Dec 01 - [livejournal.com profile] mugsy1274 copies from cmora.

MN associated:
Dec 01 - [livejournal.com profile] hjart posts meme, then [livejournal.com profile] ejya, then [livejournal.com profile] griffondj.

There is no direct link (erm, ok, there's no twisted and convoluted link) between the two groups, excepting that hjart apparently has ties to Atenveldt, the SCA Kingdom here.

*sighs* 30 minutes of cross-referencing for naught. And I'm too lazy to check any further. Oh well, guess I'll have to do something productive, like sign up for direct deposit.

Josh? Where did you find the completely made up and fictional meme?

I got my first hands-on experaince with body piercings yesterday, helping [livejournal.com profile] springiswrath clean his six back piercings. That was cool.

Some goddamnmotherfuckingsonofabitch stole my and Isabelle's hoopskirts. No picnic for me tomorrow, I need to spend all day sewing so they'll be done for dress rehersal on Sunday.

- I wore a *gasp* short sleeved chemise (with elastic!) for the first time ever this weekend. I know I should feel horribly guilty, but hey, it was free!

- Late Sunday, when it was slowing down, I was singing Gamen/The Vulture (in English), and a patron walked by, stopped and listened, and said my singing gave him chills. He came back five minutes later and told me that, no, seriously, I should send a demo CD to American Idol. Heh, so much for keeping my ego in check. Now I need to learn *how* to sing, instead of just doing it, and how to blend and all that shit.

- I'm camped next to the same group of girls I was camped next to in Arizona. Yay, this'll rock!

- I'm making more money here than I thought I would. Woot! I'm getting dental work this summer!

- Every time I saw a flower person walk by I would miss my boy. *sigh* I miss my boy....

- I saw [livejournal.com profile] spanishbubbles on my trip here. That was awesome; it's amazing how you can not see someone for two years and pick up right where you left off (except for understanding lawyer-speak. Sorry, babe! I now understand how you felt when I'd talk about taxes!)

- If I seem to be posting stuff for the edification of all of y'all who read my journal, and it's not interesting, feel free to be like, "Hey, Deb, but what about Insert-Subject-Here?"

- It was awesome to see [livejournal.com profile] iarroganti again! Um. And [livejournal.com profile] gem_handler, and [livejournal.com profile] doveshadows, and [livejournal.com profile] dancingbearkat, and other familiar people too, but [livejournal.com profile] iarroganti was an unexpected surprise.

- I figured out why there's so much more dancing here than at other faires! It's because there aren't any dancing stage shows - no Morris dancers, no Royal Scottish Country Dance Society folk, only a few lone belly dancers.

- Ah! There's a picture of me from first day! Wow, but I look bad....

... so, I'm about to go through friends lists, and add pretty much anyone I know even remotely, so they can see any freinds-only type stuff. Let me know if I forget anyone?

So, I left my pre-written post at home, and there's only a few minutes left on the library computer, but I wanted to say "Hi!" to everyone on my friends list (and even those who aren't), and I'm glad that it sounds like you're all doing pretty well, and good luck in your endeavors, and holy shit, I forgot that it's V-Day.

*laughs, grins*

Be well!

Liebes Tagbuch...

The most awesome thing happened on Sunday: I saw Raven, the chocolatier from Minnesota, while I was decorating the front of the shop. My jaw dropped and I moved closer to verify, then just stood and stared until she looked at me, did a visible double-take, and we hugged. It was so wonderful, and such a relief to see a familiar face!

I've really been feeling disconnected of late... feeling very strongly that I've pulled myself up by the roots and that I don't really have a voice... It has me missing home, and friends, and the Knights. Part of it is due to the same-world-but-smaller thing with rennies.... I'm getting closer to the right group of people out there, but there's still a lot of negitivity and closed-mindedness that I'm flowing around/with.... My neighbors are good folk, and there's a catgirl that everyone thinks is crazy that I want to see if I can hunt down.
