Just passed Depriciation by the skin of my teeth. That's 6 hours towards Tax Pro certification, and I actually learned stuff, woo! Even if it is deprecation, blech.

Weather at Fest was beautiful, again. Next week is projected to be a little hotter, so all you festies out there, start praying for 70s again!

I'm going to celebrate my birthday at the Wabasha Street Caves. It does cost $7 to get it, but it sounds like it's worth it. It's been a long time since I've been swing dancing, and am looking forward to it. Lessons are 6:15-7 on Thursday, and then I'll be there for the rest of the evening, most like. I might be up to heading to Zero afterwards as well, if I'm not all peopled out by that point. And if I don't feel self-conscious about wearing a semi-formal dress (with floral designs!).

Stuff and blah. I wrote something like two pages of an entry while I was at work, and of course I don't feel like posting any of it.

Perfect weather this weekend.

I heard beautiful music, and danced to but a small portion of it. Shakespeare's Love Child is gorgeous. Terp's musical director believes in creative flourishes. Oh, and Shakespeare's Love Child is incredible.

It was awesome seeing alll sorts of folks again, but very awkward with having all sorts of rennies know me by my real name... Zach was pulling cab past the Bear, and he was being a tour guide for his passengers, and he included "And that's Deborah!" in his spiel... nrg. Must fix that next week.

Squalli had a bunch of questions for me, about other faires, and the circuit and all that. And it was good chatting with Twig about what it was like to leave the circuit and go back to the real world.

And that's about it for what I can think of, for public reading. I'll edit more in if I think of any.

Personally, things have been kind of up and down.

I really need to sign up for classes at Block, otherwise I won't have enough classhours to be a preparer next year.

Fest is imminent... had the last (eep!) Terp rehersal today, have a couple more Chess rehersals, and there's a rumor that they're going to use last year's schedule as a starting point for this one, so I should be able to do them both, yay! Although if the first weekend is anything like today was, I'll need to do everything at half energy, since I was doing seriously not-good by the time I made it home from on-site rehersal. (e.g. mild driving hallucinations, ?shivering?, cramps, nausea... I'm not happy about that at all.)

Not playing very much EQ at the moment, but whiling away the minutes with Katamari Damacy instead.

I'll be going to my oldest cousin's wedding next weekend... driving out to Pittsburgh with my mom and brother... Dave's ok, but dealing with Mom for that long is gonna be trying, to say the least. And with a whole bunch of New York Jews in attendance, I just might have to shut myself away with a book and hope the "conversations" stay to a dull roar.

I'm thinking of declaring that I'll be celebrating my birthday at the Wabasha Street Caves... I certainly want to avoid doing just the same-old-same-old of Bondage-A-Go-Go. Has anyone been to swing dancing there?

Here's a bright idea... a post focusing on Renaissance Festivals. After all, working the circuit is the reason why I started this journal in the first place...

This year I'll be entertainment at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. My contract is with Terpsichory Dance Troupe, and I'm trusting to the gods again that the schedule will allow me to be on the chess board again with CappaFerro Productions. Those are both stage shows; any street I might do will be limited to court dance and "good 'morrows!" while travelling between shows.

Terp: No audience participation dances again this year... sorry, [livejournal.com profile] gem_handler. We have a somewhat different format, where instead of being semi-educational, or having a plot, we just have various short bits to break up the dances. I definately prefer bits to a plot, though I don't know how I feel it compares to semi-educational. I don't really like how we're performing Nonesuch, but in general I like that we're being a little flexible as to how we're performing the dances, to try and make them look more interesting.

Chess Match: Chess Match has an entirely new script this year, and a different director, which makes for a different feel. This year there's not the same pressure to develop character backgrounds and motivations, which, though I like not having that additional stress, may have affected the feeling of depth and richness the story had previously. That being said, Minnesota still has the best Human Combat Chess Game in the country. *nods*

At some point I'll try to post a compare-and-contrast of Minnesota, from more of a Rennie viewpoint, if possible.

So, Saturday sucked ass... )

However, in all fairness, Sunday was much better, even though it was too hot (high 80s). I saw lots of people and danced lots and (as usual) had no idea how to react when people came on to me.

Oh, and I completely forgot it was National Talk Like a Pirate Day. dammit.

I will post lots of happy news about the circuit at some point, and one friend kindly told me I'm a little vague on a number of details he'd like to know (such as what Faires I'll be doing, etc...). Anyone have any questions for me?

*smiles happily*

It will be a good life.

....

I spent some time hanging out with Angus (from Anam Cara) at his fire tripod in front of his shop last night, and, during a discussion about expectations, he had these marvelous words of wisdom:

Ya can beat the bloody shit out of a dandelion, but ya won't get barley fer brew.

A brisk autumn breeze, and I wrapped my cloak about me, looking up at the sky, picking out stars and constellations.

Heading down through the Narrows, I saw a bright stream of light spilling out upon the ground.

I frowned. Goddamn Castle Kitchens staff..... can't they turn off their blasted soda machines and electric lights and whatnot once in a while?

I walked into the light and circled, trying to identify the booth the light was coming from.

It wasn't a booth at all.

The waxing cresent moon, low in the sky, peeking through a gap in the trees.

Beautiful. Amazing.

Update (hopefully short, but I doubt it):

I am now home after the first weekend of Fest. It was kind of like life, only compressed into two days.

Terp's new show format is very fun, and it seems as though we are doing better at retaining audience, but they aren't tipping worth crap. We got a fifty-cent tip for our last show. *wince*

I got a lesson in voice projection, and managed to actually project once, yay. I still hate my lines though. *forced grin* Gotta keep on doing 'em though!

The job thing... *boggles* wow. I know so many nice people. Don't really know how to elaborate briefly, but let's just say the job search is looking optimistic.

My tent is almost entirely up. Just need to make my 'porch' and I'll be golden. I really like having a silver tarp on it - it does keep it very cool in direct sunlight.

I own a car. It's a 92 Toyota Corolla. Yay! Robert's going to help me with some basic car-readiness stuff on Tuesday.

I played sober cab on Saturday night - that was most entertaining. Since they didn't need to drive, they really went all out, four shots on top of a perfect marguarita. *laughs* Crazy people.

I kissed someone.

Today was a nice day. I was productive at work, then came home and did kitcheny stuff - I made caramel, and racked my mead. I also made a *little* bit of progress on my new chemises.... those will come in time, I suppose.

I am not happy with my mead at present - part of that's my own fault, 'cause I'm a lazy bum, but it still seems like it's stuck... it's cloudy, it hasn't bubbled at all in about three weeks (and I started in four weeks ago) ... And I have no idea what to do!! If racking it doesn't seem to help get it going, I'm going to try sticking it in the fridge to shock it into action. Otherwise, I may need to try chemicals.

Gah, crap, I keep on forgetting to call someone I know on the circuit and see how she feels about not having a car... Nrg, hopefully by typing it down I'll remember it tomorrow night.

Neat things - The Chess Match is gonna rock again this year! Woo! *laughs* So far, I'm thinking I'll cry once, cross myself twice (sorry, Ma), and maybe even scream once too... the crossing thingy is hard though - I never quite know when the appropriate time is. Meh. *shrugs*

I might get to do some Shakespeare in the street with Harold the Peasent... *fingers crossed* Also I'm hoping to hang out with the Mayor's Entourage again for a bit of the day - I've already learned a neat new ballad with them.
