I finally have a functional atm/debit card again, after almost 4 weeks without, so I've been spending money like crazy.
- I got my A/C, powersteering, alternator, and timing belts replaced, for $330. Woot!
- Ich habe Das Musical Elisabeth auf DVD (und das Libretto) gekauft!!!! Nur 44,45 Euros!
- I've bought some stuff for fire poi (a fuel tin, zipper baggies to spin out fuel), two half-gallon water bottles, some bulk groceries from CostCo, and a new wallet! Yay! Now if only I could find a silver-backed tarp for my tent....

I had fun at the ceili last Friday, and got to learn all sorts of cool smurfy English Country Dances at SCA dance practice on Tuesday! I'm looking forward to the Estrella War Ball, and getting to try them out with a lot of other folk.

Does anyone out there know if there's a relatively painless way to figure out if a particular melody is already in existance? I started humming something at work today, and I'm wondering if it's some random song that's been stuck in my subconcious for a while, or if it's something I made up. It would be neat if I made it up, though it would be even more neat if it was in my range :-(

I'm scheduled to work 50 hours so far at Block over this next week, and probably will do the same the week after. I will be one dead Deba once Peak is over. Dead, but halfway to my buy-lots-of-pretty-clothing goal.

spent some time clicking around on an online java keyboard. This is what I can come up with for the first line.

At Tax Pro training today, we were going over how to conduct client interviews, and the instructor related a situation that happened to him a few years ago.

"... this very nice lady sat down at my desk so I started off by asking her, 'Is everything the same as last year?' And she said, 'No, last year I was a man.'" He paused a moment while the room processed that, then added, "I just sat there dumbfounded for a couple minutes!"

The co-instructor supported him, rhetorically asking, "Well, what else are you going to do?"

From the center of the room, "Congratulate her?"

Crickets.

The usual banter followed ("Did her social security number change?" "No, just her name." "That's a lot of medical expenses! "Not if it's cosmetic."), but it will be nice when I'm not the youngest preparer in the room.

So, apparently I can recharacterize some of my IRA contributions from last year, amend my return, and get an additional $400 back from the IRS.... It would also result in an account maintainance fee of $10/year for the next few years, most like, and then I'd have to deal with having both a traditional IRA and a Roth... So, question is, do I want to go through the bother, or would I rather have all my money be tax free?

Just passed Depriciation by the skin of my teeth. That's 6 hours towards Tax Pro certification, and I actually learned stuff, woo! Even if it is deprecation, blech.

Weather at Fest was beautiful, again. Next week is projected to be a little hotter, so all you festies out there, start praying for 70s again!

I'm going to celebrate my birthday at the Wabasha Street Caves. It does cost $7 to get it, but it sounds like it's worth it. It's been a long time since I've been swing dancing, and am looking forward to it. Lessons are 6:15-7 on Thursday, and then I'll be there for the rest of the evening, most like. I might be up to heading to Zero afterwards as well, if I'm not all peopled out by that point. And if I don't feel self-conscious about wearing a semi-formal dress (with floral designs!).

Stuff and blah. I wrote something like two pages of an entry while I was at work, and of course I don't feel like posting any of it.

Personally, things have been kind of up and down.

I really need to sign up for classes at Block, otherwise I won't have enough classhours to be a preparer next year.

Fest is imminent... had the last (eep!) Terp rehersal today, have a couple more Chess rehersals, and there's a rumor that they're going to use last year's schedule as a starting point for this one, so I should be able to do them both, yay! Although if the first weekend is anything like today was, I'll need to do everything at half energy, since I was doing seriously not-good by the time I made it home from on-site rehersal. (e.g. mild driving hallucinations, ?shivering?, cramps, nausea... I'm not happy about that at all.)

Not playing very much EQ at the moment, but whiling away the minutes with Katamari Damacy instead.

I'll be going to my oldest cousin's wedding next weekend... driving out to Pittsburgh with my mom and brother... Dave's ok, but dealing with Mom for that long is gonna be trying, to say the least. And with a whole bunch of New York Jews in attendance, I just might have to shut myself away with a book and hope the "conversations" stay to a dull roar.

I'm thinking of declaring that I'll be celebrating my birthday at the Wabasha Street Caves... I certainly want to avoid doing just the same-old-same-old of Bondage-A-Go-Go. Has anyone been to swing dancing there?

I lie awake, the desert chill pulls the warmth from my body, and I listen to coyotes yap-yipping just beyond reach of the campgrounds.

... or maybe I'll be preparing taxes this year after all...

*laughs* Or maybe not, I have no idea, it depends on the result of a meeting between my office manager and the district manager... This will be interesting.

HRB looks positive. I'll have 10 on the job training hours this week, and then next week is the start of Peak hours. It looks like I have a good chance of learning the electronic transfer system, and/or working as a "preparer's assistant," basically data-entering W-2's, 1040's, and that sort of thing, leaving the preparers to conduct the interview proper.

I finished my new bodice. I have no slack at the waist, the bust is a little loose, and there're some wrinkles where I didn't match things up just right, but nothing horribly obvious.

I did some awesome new things with my poi. Tali showed me a neat thingy where you spin the poi asynchronously over your head, and occasionally dip them under your arm, and I figured out how to do that, yay! I also was able to spin a bit behind my back!! I can't do anything too impressive yet, but I at least can cross both hands behind at once, and bring them back (ie, a basic X-cross) without hitting myself in the head or calves *too* much.

The drum circle this last weekend was interesting, as I witnessed my first ever almost-fight... details... )

Yay. I get to go in to the office next Monday for three hours, doing office familiarity-type stuff. Woo.

*prepares to twiddle her thumbs a lot*

- I've wrapped up my training with HRBlock, but my transfer (as the computer system understands it) is not being as speedy as I wish it to be/as it should, so I haven't gotten any hours yet. I should talk to my office manager tomorrow.

- I'm very close to finishing my new lower-middle-class bodice. I need to tip the boning, sew up the bottom seam, and put in the grommits. I need to buy tipping fluid, so I'm waiting to do that until I am earning money. On the plus side, I can buy Tool Dip at Home Depot for a mere $5, as opposed to buying professional dressmaker tipping fluid from Greenberg and Hammer for $20. Woo!

- I'm also feeling the necessity of fixing up my car, but I also feel the need to wait on that until, surprise surprise, I'm earning money. For those who don't know, I spun into a street sign my last day in Minnesota, and took out my driver's side directional light, as well as a good chunk of my front bumper, and I also bent my tire rim. I found a scrap yard here in the Phoenix area with the parts I need for crazy cheap, only about $125 for all three of those, but then I get to try and put them on. Joy.

- I went to the drum jam again on Saturday, all by my lonesome. I chatted with a few people there... scary pessimist and Rocky guy (why are they everywhere? Ahhh!) David, and Gray, whom I like better when he's not constantly hitting on me (although then the encounter is rather less amusing).

- I feel like ... half babysitter/half big sister here in the house I'm living in... very odd. Very different. I've never before had a naked three year old hug me and say "I love you Sarah. Deba. Sorry for calling you Sarah." .... I've now dressed my first three year old. I'm trying to teach her the alphabet and numbers. And I start having weird surreal conversations that would probably only be of interest to other people who interact with lisping three year olds on a regular basis.

- I spun poi at the drum jam. Nothing exciting, but it was a good conversation starter, and I enjoyed it.

idea!

Hey, here's a thought! I just might actually write my own LJ entry today instead of just reading my friends... *shock/surprise*

Life updates:

I now have gotten rid of another 4 grocery bags of Goodwill donations, 2 bags of trash, 2 boxes of used books/CDs, and moved all my homebrewing stuff to my mom's basement. Woo! I think next goals will be to ... um... *looks around* Damn. Um, I don't know. I suppose just get rid of more throw-away-able stuff, and then start on the major stuff in a couple weeks.

I am a lazy bum.

There're so many things I've been putting of doing, like... well, now that I think about it... ... there, called a couple people - and [livejournal.com profile] nightjasmine, get off your phone! - and I am now registered for Everyone's Return, the next class I need to take for HRBlock, yay!

*peers over at her stack of dishes* Now... just one more thing... hrm.

I'm making next to no progress on remaking my blue gown for the Renaissance Festival. *sighs* It's just really hard to be motivated when I know I'll need to wear my green gown all the time, for the Chess Match.

Speaking of, I finally started fainting during the puppy-getting-hit-by-a-bus scene! *grins* This is lots of fun - I just need to work on paling a lot more, and *not* hitting my lower back into [livejournal.com profile] unknownpoet78's knee when I go down... ow. Also need to work on the angle so the audience can see me when I faint, but I don't care about that so much. If Dayna says otherwise though, well, then, of course.

Hrm. That's all I can really think of right now.
