first trip to the Superstitions

I went to the Superstition Mountains for the first time yesterday, with Alien Jon and Linnea. We first tried the Lost Dutchman State Park, but ended up going to the First Water Trailhead to see if we could save on entrance fees (which we did, a whopping $1, heh). I didn't see much fauna, only a ground squirrel and a roadrunner. We collected some litter while we were there, and Linnea identified a covered firepit. I need to remember to bring some first aid things next time I go (Linnea got poked by some sort of ground cactus). I also need to wear my Catskills; all that brush in my socks and shoes was a pain in the butt. It was a cool day (maybe 60 degrees) and sunny, and I drank about a pint of water per hour.
It was interesting to try and accustom myself to the new group dynamic. Linnea strikes me as the more spiritually inclined, and Jon and I were more likely to break silences. Linnea would forge on ahead, off-trail, with a foraged saguaro rib as her walking stick, while Jon trailed behind. I was a bit more laid back about sticking together, but I can definitely see the need for some sort of "at sunset we'll meet back at the car" plan. I also don't deal with conflict well - whenever they argued I tried to ignore it, but I did try and give Jon a suggestion or two while Linnea was meditating on the landscape. And I made them both sit in the back seat *nod*. No more breaking up couples for me.
I've been invited to some sort of "goth-industrial-grunge" potluck at Linnea's cousin's co-op tonight. I'm going to bring mulled cider. And my poi, but I don't know if I'll spin. With Jon there I'll feel way outclassed, and he's extended his alienness to single staff now too.
