car stuff, mostly
Dec. 3rd, 2006 03:50 amThe job is boring. Oh well. You really can't ask for much from a PT temp holiday job.
On Thursday, I drove to HR Block training, drove back, tried to start my car 5 minutes later, and it wouldn't start again. I heard a weird clicky-type noise and thought, "Hrm. I that might be the starter?"
With lots of help from a guy occasionally known as Bookman:
- Car started. Huh? Turned off, wouldn't start again.
- Cleaned off battery posts. Hooked up battery to B's battery. Nuttin'. Looked inside battery, fluid levels looked good. Not the battery.
- Pulled out air cleaner stuff, eventually unearthed the starter (a bitch and a half, omg!), took it in to AutoZone where it failed one of three tests. Huh. Bought new starter.
- Put in new starter. Starter works. Car doesn't. Bitch.
- Probably (hopefully hopefully) not a damaged flywheel, because there aren't a lot of awful noises coming out of the engine.
- Ran some wire to bypass where there would most likely be electrical issues due to wiring. Still doesn't work.
- Hooked battery back up to working battery, let it charge for an hour. Hey, it works! So, either a bad battery, or wiring issues causing my battery to slowly drain.
- Could maybe be alternator, but all the rest of my electrical is working, so probably not.
I really really really hope that this is finished tomorrow. Especially since I need to go to 7 hours of HR Block training on Monday. I actually don't know if I want to bother returning the new starter for the now-assumed old functional starter (the guy may not have hooked it up to the tester right at first), because it's such a bitch trying to get to those bolts.
