strange new project
Apr. 9th, 2009 11:04 amWell, this show I've got a rather unexpected project I'll be working on. The son of my landlord in TRF has reached that stage in his life where he wants to learn algebra, and so I'm going to see about starting him down that path. He's familiar with fractions, he says, but hasn't any experience with variables, exponents/powers, or graphs, so pre-algebra, here we come!
It's kind of strange, because I'm not really qualified to teach, other than the fact that I like math, and I did pretty well at it (except for trig, but that was the teacher's fault). But I've been wanting to do some math review anyway, so this will be good for me too, I guess. So I've been poking around the internet a bit looking for resources to help me on this, and I really like that Hotmath has lots of practice problems. I expect I'll also be hitting up Half Price Books in Dallas for a text book or two as well, but I feel a lot more prepared for this now that I have a starting point.
akitrom, do you have any suggestions or guidance for when I do make it out to look at textbooks? Reputable publishers or authors, or ones I should steer away from?
