Excitement on RV row
Apr. 23rd, 2009 09:36 amWe had a bit of excitement yesterday on RV row. As I was coming back from a trip into town, I saw a bunch of dirty smoke coming from down the RV row and after pausing a moment to try and recall if there was a fire pit down that way, decided to check it out. I pulled up to see a pallet burning on the ground in front of the Wenches at Work couple's fifth wheel (with another one towards the back of their RV), and people running around frantically. Mr Wench had burned his feet running outside to pull his porch pallets away from his home so he was pretty much out of the picture at that point, but someone else asked if I had a knife (I think to cut their water line to put the fire out that way?). So I got some cutting tools out of my trunk, then after being handed a teeny tiny and almost empty fire extinguisher that they had, ran down the hill towards camp for my half-full fire extinguisher and Valhalla's monster extinguisher. On the way I stopped at another camp and their cook was there, and I told him we needed a fire extinguisher up on RV row, then kept running. I enlisted a random woman's help to carry the small fire extinguisher while I lugged the big one (and goddamn, it's hard to carry 40 lbs uphill when you're already out of breath and your heart is racing), but by the time we got there, the cook had already gotten all the flames out with his fire extinguisher, and my boss had found a hose two sites up and the head of security was starting to saturate the entire area with water. We did use both the extinguishers a little on the still-smoking pallets until someone who was thinking a little more clearly pointed out that was overkill at that point, so, sorry,
greenjack1533, your extinguisher is now about half full as well.
So, thankfully, except for Mr Wench's burned feet, everyone is ok and no RVs exploded across the campground.
In less exciting news: Repo the Genetic Opera is strange, but enjoyable; tutoring is going well - my student wanted to know why x^0=1, so I got to research that, which was nifty; I hope to finish my red lab coat today; Voltaire rocked, though I'm a little worried by the Church's DJ now, since he played *a lot* of the same music he had played three days before; and I now know one way to tie a cravat - yay, Youtube!
