There's a big change in the works! Of course, it's the same big plan I've been anticipating for well over a year now, but it's still nerve wracking.
I'm planning on buying a 2001 Fleetwood Wilderness 24' 5th wheel. It's currently parked at Chennault Airpark, just over the border in Louisiana. For the last 2 years, it's been owned by an airplane mechanic and his wife, and they lived in it full time at whichever base he was working. It is in very good shape structurally (as one might expect, considering the owners). All inside and outside lights, the fridge and freezer, and the plumbing all work. The slide works like a charm, and the rubber seals are new(er), as are the directional lights. It has a container for a second battery, and I should be able to add more along the supports where the first one currently is. About a year ago they upgraded their old hot water heater to a 10-gallon one. There's a ton of storage and headroom, and plenty of room for me to add more cabinetry if I so choose. In the bedroom is a pillow-top mattress.
There's a small tear in the (rubberized) roof, which needs to be patched immediately, and two of the roof vent covers have deteriorated and should be replaced. The awning isn't pretty, and there is a foot long tear on one end of it, but it's easily repairable. I'll need to buy propane (2 30-lb tanks) and recharge the AC. There's a funky smell, but a liberal amount of vinegar should take care of that. I'll also want to wash the carpet, since that's a little on the funky side too.
Otherwise, it's ready for me to move in (after the requisite bug-bomb, deodorizing, and floor-to-ceiling cleaning). Squeee!! I need to buy linens! And a rug! ... and insurance! Who knew RV insurance was so affordable!?
Of course, that's assuming it didn't sell today. That would blow goats. I really want this trailer.
