road diary
Aug. 7th, 2011 10:07 pmWed Aug 3 - Left site 1.5 hours later than hoped for. Midway through Nebraska picked up a girl who was "hitching" to Sioux Falls. Told her we could take her to Omaha. Around 4 pm, discovered that the cable that connects my trailer and my truck had been dragging on the ground for quite a while, and 3 of the 7 wires within were severed (and in two cases, missing a good 2 inches of wire). Determined that all the trailer lights worked, but the trailer brakes did not. Decided to just brake really carefully. Had a yummy dinner and slept at a rest area west of Lincoln.
Thurs Aug 4 - River flooding at NE/IA border, so decided to take hitchhiker though detour and take 169 up to MNRF. Called Joe and he told me which wire controlled the trailer brake, and that I really really should splice that ASAP, and that he would help me with a final repair in Kenosha. Yay Joe! Realized that to get optimum fuel economy, must drive at or below 1500 RPMs, not over it. Should spend more time driving at 55, 56, 57, and 58 mph to compare. Spent night at Holiday by MNRF site.
Fri Aug 5 - Deposited my rider in Shakopee, then headed straight to Kenosha. Made it in around 7pm.
Sat Aug 6 - Went to Bristol, helped out at Gritchel's, did some shopping and wandering. Wasn't as much fun alone, and ended up going back to the booth, doing some reading, and getting in a nap. Drank some mead, but otherwise spent very little of the Day of Debauchery & Gluttony doing anything debaucherous or gluttonous, alas. After close, changed into club clothes and went to Neo with Xer0gee! Had a fun time, but can NOT wear that outfit again until I get a new bra. I have bruises from the underwire. No creeps at Neo this time, but too many tourists.
Sun Aug 7 - Bristol again, in plainclothes! Wandered a bit, saw a few shows, talked to people, then read and napped through a rainstorm. Joseph fixed my wiring without me, which was very nice of him. I'm ready to set up MN and be anti-social until Irish Fair.
