work, books, and birthday fun

This week I'll be nailing down my workers for Minnesota. I've made a mental note not to try and start this process *at all* before July 4th, since I've had my Help Wanted sign up since June 25th, and only this last weekend has anyone contacted me about it.

This last weekend was our best weekend yet, thank goodness. I was starting to feel like it was me. Or my hires. Which would still me be.

I'm going to go Valley View Hot Springs tomorrow most like. It sounds like there's going to be a bunch of folks there; at least 7 that I know of. That is, if something doesn't happen at the last minute.

I just got Kushiel's Justice from the library! Woohoo!

Thanks to gem_handler's influence, I'm currently reading the Horatio Hornblower series by C. S. Forester. It's historical, nautical, and has a protagonist that I've mentally cast as nihilrien, being brilliant, unhappy, and highly moral.

Oh! Save the date! Since my birthday falls on a school night, I was thinking of having some sort of excuse to go out and have fun, and it would be gee-golly-gosh cool if the gathering resulting in the same sort of reunion feeling that last year's birthday party did. I thought Thursday, August 23rd would be good for going out dancing at Bondage-A-Go-Go. What think people?

other random stuff

I picked up my first hitchhiker on Friday, because he looked like a rennie I know, and I thought he got stranded in the Springs somehow. He was a nice guy, and his dog was well behaved also. Because he said he was going to panhandle at the gas station I was going to drop him off at, I dropped him off at a gas station about 10 miles out of my way, because I didn't want the Larkspur gas station folks to think he was a rennie.

I've given up on my leather pants. The clasp popped off the front two weeks ago, and I was going to go to Rena's Leather and see if she could put a button and button hole in it, but then I realized that the back pocket tore somehow. So now I'm trying to think of what I can do with a pants' worth of garment leather. Maybe wrap a glass mug?

I started outlining the bloodlines of the Kushiel series, because I was trying to figure out how exactly Imriel and Sidonie are cousins, medieval family trees being rather convoluted. As near I can figure out: Ganelon was about 20 years older than his brother Benedicte, and being heir to the throne started popping out his own heirs pretty quick. If Ganelon and his progeny reproduced approximately every 20 years, and Benedicte got Melisande pregnant with Imriel when he was in his 40s or so, then that would explain how Imriel could be 2 years older than his great-great-cousin Sidonie.

Oh yeah, and we're not going to the Hot Springs tomorrow. I wish hippies could plan ahead occasionally.
