I'm out of the campground. I don't work today, yay! (I forgot to turn off the 7am alarm though).

Bam! My 1 year personal rate of return on my IRAs is -20.8%! 3-year is only -2.3% though. If my fund drops another $.54, then my balance will be less than the amount I've invested over the last 6 years. Whee, roller coasters. Good thing I'm young.

Looking a bit at HDHPs this morning, since I'll probably want to drop my AGI more in a year or two. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas has the best price on a $5000 deductible HDHP, but my god! The fine print! I would need to call and get approved for a hospital visit prior to admission! OK, so if my leg is broken, chances are I'd still be conscious to make that phone call, but what if I'm in a bad car accident and am unconscious? What if I get taken to an out-of-network hospital where BCBS would only cover 70% of the charges *they think* are valid? An example from fine print on a $20k hospital bill: In-Network I'd pay $2.3k, Out-of-Network I'd pay $19.3k. And I'm responsible for making sure my anesthesiologist, surgeon, and facility are all BCBS? What a pain in the butt. I think I'd rather keep saving in my IRAs and draw on those if I have to.
