road trip: San Diego and :wumpskate:
Jan. 12th, 2010 12:34 pmSunday: Sunday was a slow start, but I finally said my goodbyes and left the Flow Temple (minus a goodbye hug to Teafaerie, who was still sleeping) and headed to San Diego, where I met
klari on the Embarcadero. She gave me the insider's tour of the Star of India, and we also checked out the HMS Surprise, the steam yacht Medea, a Russian submarine, and the steam ferry Berkeley. We also got to see the America being brought in from a harbor tour. Then we had dinner at Karl Strauss and walked around downtown a bit. We went through an outdoor mall, and indulged in a few truffles at Godiva and hot cocoa at Ghiradelli's. Then, thoroughly chocolated out, we said our goodbyes and I headed to my jewelry boss' house.
Monday: We met up with one of Forrest's friends and had a delicious brunch at the Beach Break Cafe in Oceanside. Then it was time for the beach, and I got to touch the Pacific for the first time. I also got to touch live starfish, sea amenomies, a tiny little crab about the size of one of my fingernails, and even an octopus! They were shocked that an octopus was just chilling out among the rocks, mussels, and sand, and Forrest's friend spent a long time digging it out from its nest (?). He got inked on, but eventually he was wielding the octopus triumphantly, then he put the poor guy back in the rocks. Then we went to another beach to watch the sunset, where we distracted by another odd sight, a lone seal coming up to sleep on the beach for the evening. He attracted a huge crowd, and someone called the authorities, who sent an officer to watch over the seal until Sea World could come check on it to make sure he wasn't sick or anything. Then back to Forrest's place, where I got ready to head back to LA, and :wumpskate:
( Rollschuhlaufenfreude: :wumpskate: )
Tuesday: Now I'm chilling at Forrest's place. I didn't get back until 3am last night, so I anticipate a slow day of relaxing, napping and uploading pictures of this trip. I don't have any idea what I'll do tomorrow. It occurred to me that there might be a fabric district around, but that's a pseudo-shopping activity and I'd rather avoid that if possible. Anyone have any suggestions for neat things to do around San Diego? Or I could go to Phoenix a day early, I suppose...
