May. 8th, 2007 11:14 amI had a great time at Church on Thursday. I spent more money on tips than I did on cover and drinks, because I tipped the Egyptian room DJ for his marvelous spinning during the first part of the night. I downed two drinks soon after I got there, hit the dance floor, and after a few breaks and room changes, checked the time to see that I had been dancing more-or-less continuously for 1.5 hours. And, even better, my whiplash was much less severe in the morning than I expected; that, or I'm just getting used to it.
This weekend was pretty crummy as far as attendance goes, but Sunday was a really good day for me. In the morning, Sir Carew and Sir Sharp came to the sliding joust to settle some score or another, and they made a full 5-10 minute bit of it, even going out in the lanes to hawk up a crowd for it. It was interesting watching them try to figure out how to end it - the first bout ended in a tie, as did the second, so they had the audience applaud to show who they thought did best. Zilch was just starting to warm his crowd up, and when he heard the tepid applause that Sir Carew got, he said something to the effect of, "You call that applause? We'll show you applause!" and Zilch ended up winning the bout, because his crowd was loudest. Good times.
And then, I took my half hour break so I could go dance Korobushka at the Pub Sing, stuck around a little bit, and one of my neighbors in Valhalla (the Scarby cast encampment) proposed to his girlfriend! That was a happy gushy moment.
Yesterday I realized that 4 or 5 people on site had expressed interest in going country dancing in Dallas, and spent an excessive amount of time trying to get people to come with me, when, of course, I ended up being the only person in my car. So, no more Dance Enthusiast Deborah! If people *really* give a shit, they can come track me down, because I'm sick and tired of making the effort with no reward.
